A Successful Wedding Hair Style!
The same frustrations with their hair that plague women in daily life often show up during wedding preparations.
While you can accept an occasional "bad hair day" in everyday life, you don't want one on your wedding day.
Instead, here are some simple ways to make sure your wedding hair style is perfect.
Headpieces
If you purchase your wedding dress from a bridal shop, the consultants will undoubtedly show you accessories for
your hair, such as a tiara, flowers, or headband that complement your dress. Wearing a headdress will influence
your wedding hair style. Your stylist will want to create a wedding hair style for you that not only accommodates a
headdress, but that also stays in place when you remove the headdress.
Style of Wedding Ceremony
In addition to what you are wearing, the wedding hair style you choose should reflect the style of wedding you
are planning to create. Are you planning a formal or informal ceremony? Are you getting married in Las Vegas, in an elegant hotel, in a cathedral, at the beach or
in a country garden setting? A wedding hair style that is dramatic is appropriate for a formal wedding, while a
hair style that is more playful and loose is appropriate for an informal ceremony held at a beach, for example. But
don't forget that planning your hair style for an outdoor wedding is very important. Example: If it might be windy
(very common at the beach), a tight bun, French braid or chignon might actually be a better choice that that loose,
casual style you might think appropriate for an outdoor or beach wedding.
No Last Minute Rush, Please
Last minute decisions are common during wedding preparations, but one thing you don't want to put at the end of
your list is your wedding hair style. If you don't have a hair stylist, find one well in advance of your wedding.
You don't want a wedding hair style that is tacky and you definitely don't want a hair stylist who won't deliver a
special wedding hair style. It is customary for brides and bridesmaids to block off four hours or more before the
wedding ceremony to get their hair done. Be sure your hairstylist can accommodate this or make other arrangements.
It's a good idea to avoid having the bridesmaids take care of their own hair style. Otherwise, the result could be
everyone with a very different hairdo!
Do Your Own Research
Although your hairstylist can offer suggestions, it is a good idea to give them some idea of what you like.
Browse popular bridal magazines and other magazines featuring various hairstyles until you find a style that
appeals to you. The Internet is also a great place to research wedding hairdos.
Plan a Practice Session
A few days, or even weeks, before the wedding get your hairdresser to create the hairdo you like best. Bring
along the headpiece you will be wearing. This gives your hairdresser a chance to practice with the style and
headpiece you have chosen...and it gives you a chance to evaluate his or her skill. If more than one stylist will
be involved, you may want to take along a couple of other party members and get their hair done in advance, too.
Better safe than sorry!
Wilting Hair, Be Gone!
Be wary of hairstyles that include little curls or strands of hair hanging down around your face. These can end
up wilting and falling in front of your eyes during the ceremony and during the photo shoot. You don't want to
spend your day tucking bits of hair behind your ears or to find your photos marred by stray locks of hair obscuring
your face! Opt for an off-the-face style that is well-anchored with pins or hairspray.
A Romantic Finish to Your Wedding Day
Elaborate hairdos won't brush out well for your wedding night, so if an elaborate do is your choice, leave your
reception early. Go to your hotel room and shower and wash your hair. Then, depending on the weather, sit on the
balcony or in front of a romantic fire with your new husband, drinking champagne and eating chocolate- covered
strawberries. When your hair is finally dry, ask your husband to brush it. This is one of the most intimate
gestures of trust and love between a couple and will help to start your married life out right.
