Choosing Your Wedding Photographer
One aspect of your wedding planning that you don't want to neglect is your wedding photography. Unless you can stand the risk of having a wedding album full of headless bodies and fuzzy faces, make sure the photographer you choose has a lot of experience photographing weddings.
To select a wedding photographer properly, you will need to interview a few and then make a choice. If you don't know anything about wedding photography yourself, perform a quick search on the Internet so that what the photographer has to say isn't completely foreign to you. Otherwise, you might not understand the significance of what the photographer tells you in terms of the equipment they use, the packages they offer, etc. The photographer will also appreciate your interest in his or her work. This will establish an important bond between you and the person who will capture your wedding for posterity. When you think of it, the wedding photographer is one of the most important people at your wedding!
After doing a little research, you'll be able to ask the potential photographer good questions. You'll want to know: what equipment they typically use for wedding photography, how much they charge, what packages they offer, how many proofs will you get to see, how flexible they are in terms of venue, etc. Also ask the cost of additional wedding photography opportunities that may become available. If the tiny flower girl receives a sweet kiss from the young ring bearer, you want to make sure the photographer will snap a candid photo! But you also want to know how much extra these types of candid shots will cost you.
Typical wedding photography includes shots of the wedding party in various groupings. One option is to schedule a photo shoot a few days before the wedding ceremony and to display the pictures at your reception. With this option your wedding party is prepared and in order. If the shoot is to be outdoors and weather turns bad, the session can be postponed or moved indoors. Just remember that you will have to schedule time for the bride and bridesmaids to get their hair done before the shoot. This is an additional expense you will need to figure into your wedding planning budget.
If you choose to have pictures of the wedding party taken after the wedding ceremony, there is the issue of bad weather if the photo shoot is to be held outdoors. Changing the venue may be more difficult on your actual wedding day. Other issues may pop up, too. Just make sure the wedding photographer you hire is flexible and prepared for last minute changes. Most professional photographers will be, but it is a good idea to make sure ahead of time.
Wedding photography, like most aspects of a wedding, is built on tradition. The tradition is to provide the bride and groom with proofs from which they choose the best photographs for their album. If you are interested in more pictures or have a wedding photography idea, talk to the photographer about it ahead of time. They may be willing to make changes to what they offer without charging you extra.
